Dedrick Brandes Stuber (California 1878-1954)
Known primarily as a California painter of marine, mountain, and pastoral scenes similar to these on display here, Stuber usually did his "plein air" landscapes at sunrise when it was cool and shady. That, of course, strongly influenced the lighting in his works.
Born in New York City, he studied at the Art Students League, and in 1920 settled in Los Angeles, where he exhibited his work through for the next 20 years. He was a member of the Painters and Sculptors of Los Angeles and Laguna Beach Art Association, and his work is featured in The Pasadena Art Museum.
