Martha Saunders "Descending Particles"
Measures 36" wide x 48" tall x 2.5" deep.
Martha Saunders’ work is about suspension and convergence. It seeks to tap into such sensory interplay as experiencing two senses at the same time, “like listening to birdsong and being aware of the space that the sound creates.” She assembles her paintings using the traditional encaustic method, a medium made of bleached beeswax and damar crystals, combined with pigments and collage materials on a wooden ground. Built-up layers of material move from opaque to translucent. Her goal is to construct environments that draw on our collective desire for something tangible as a way to access the intangible.
