Henry Jakobe (1920-2005) framed original American modernist painting. Oil on wood, signed and dated 1955.
Born in Tennessee, he earned a Master of Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis and a Master's degree in education from Columbia University after serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He also completed graduate work in art at the University of Virginia and in English literature at Harvard. As an artist, Jakobe worked as a wallpaper designer for Bassett and Vollum in Chicago, and on his return to Missouri, he became a member of the St. Louis Artist's Guild. His paintings have been exhibited at the St. Louis Art Museum and Columbia University.
